1970-1972 - SWEETEST OF MUSIC

The poet in me want to learn
of nature's golden song,
the music of the wildlife
as it paves its way along
the country roads of quiet and the forest with its trees,
the music of the raging storm and of the gentle breeze.

In observation, I have learned
that life has many tones,
from the smallest of the helpless cries
to the fearless, vicious groans.
The song of nature is, indeed, a song of endless verse
as some will always linger on and some are rather terse.

I've been a poet long enough
to know what makes life fine,
the peaceful sounds of midnight
as they haunt with echoing rhyme,
the sweetest song of morning with daybreak's wistful call,
but yours is, without any doubt, the sweetest song of all.
