1970-1972 - THE CHEWING GUM SONG

Got to go down to the Five and Dime.
Way I'm feeling now, I ain't got much time.
Won't be happy 'til I get me some
of that wonderful chewing gum.

Dropped my radio on the floor.
Didn't think it would play anymore.
The back fell off, but I wasn't glum.
I stuck it back together with my chewing gum.

Put my chewing gum down, but I didn't know where.
Sat down to think about it, in the chair.
Suddenly remembered where my chewing gum went.
I stuck to the chair like I was in cement.

Got to go down to the Five and Dime.
Way I'm feeling now, I ain't got much time.
Won't be happy 'til I get me some
of that wonderful chewing gum.

Now, the teacher told Johnny to get rid of his gum.
She said, "Put it anywhere," which was kind of dumb.
When Johnny'd gotten rid of it, the teacher asked him where.
He said he put the chewing gum in Mary Lou's hair.

Got to go down to the Five and Dime.
Way I'm feeling now, I ain't got much time.
Won't be happy 'til I get me some
of that wonderful chewing gum.

Of that wonderful chewing gum.
Of that wonderful [pop!] chewing gum.
